This month, Great Bay Home is proud to introduce our brand new Oeko-Tex-certified PureSoft bath towels. Joining the ranks of our other eco-friendly towel collections--Grayson, Acacia, and many more--our PureSoft towels are lightweight, absorbent, and quick-drying, without sacrificing any of the softness, strength, and durability you’ve come to expect from our all-cotton towels.

As we work to transition even more of our collections to meet Oeko-Tex’s thorough “Made in Green” and “Standard 100” certification requirements, we thought now would be a great opportunity to answer some questions you may have. Find out more below.

What is OEKO-TEX?

Great question! OEKO-TEX® is an organization consisting of approximately 18 independent research and test institutes, in the field of textile and leather ecology, with contact offices in more than 60 countries. These partner institutes share the joint responsibility of developing test methods and limit values which form the basis for standards that include:

  1. Product labels: STANDARD 100®, MADE IN GREEN®, and LEATHER STANDARD®.
  1. Production facility certification according to STeP (Sustainable Textile & Leather Production).
  1. Chemicals
  2. Status

Oeko-Tex is committed to providing independent certifications and product labels that enable textile companies and affiliates to make responsible decisions. These certifications and labels greatly favor products that are harmless to health, environmentally friendly, and fairly manufactured. For more information on OEKO-TEX, visit their website here.

What are “STANDARD 100®” and “MADE IN GREEN®” certifications?

OEKO-TEX certifications support conscientious decision making for businesses and their consumers. Any OEKO-TEX certification can indicate that a product has been tested for harmful substances, manufactured in sustainable working conditions, responsibly produced, and more! Specifically speaking:

Made in Green - Oeko Tex

STANDARD 100® - One of the most recognizable textile labels in the world. With a STANDARD 100® label, suppliers and purchasers can rest assured that every component of the item (i.e. every thread, button, or other accessories) has been tested for harmful substances and is therefore harmless to human health.

(Fun Fact: All our beach and bath towels are STANDARD 100® certified)

MADE IN GREEN® - The MADE IN GREEN® certification is a traceable product label, for various textiles, that verifies an item has been tested for harmful substances. It also guarantees that the textile or leather product has been manufactured using sustainable processes, under socially responsible working conditions.

What makes PureSoft towels so special?

Our new PureSoft towels are woven from a blend of certified recycled cotton, virgin combed cotton, and PET from recycled plastic bottles. The recycled cotton originates from surplus fibers and fabrics, accrued in the manufacturing process. While the PET comes from clear plastic water bottles that are recycled into yarns.

This means you’re saving:

  • 7 plastic water bottles per 4-pack bath set
  • 5 plastic water bottles per 6-piece bath set
  • 3 plastic water bottles per 6 pack hand towels
  • 2 plastic water bottles per 12-pack washcloth

Isn’t that neat?!

Not only are these bath towels as soft, strong, and absorbent as anyone could want--they’re also Oeko-Tex and Standard 100 certified which means they're sustainably manufactured, eco-friendly, and free of harmful chemical substances. Additionally, our PureSoft towels are made with pure, natural silver-coated cleaning fibers to eliminate bacterial growth and keep your towel fresh for up to 3x longer than the average towel.

So what are you waiting for? Head over to our selection of PureSoft towels and spoil yourself with a soft, strong, lightweight, absorbent, and quick-drying towel that cares every bit about comfort, quality, and sustainability as you do!

As always…
